Editorial standards and how we research
CoverCapy is an independent guide to PPO dental insurance. This page explains how our content is researched, sourced, fact-checked, and reviewed before it reaches you.
Independence: no paid placement
CoverCapy does not sell insurance and is not owned by an insurance carrier. We do not accept payment to rank, recommend, or feature any dental plan. When we say a plan is a strong fit for a situation, that judgment comes from the plan's published benefits, not from a commercial arrangement with the carrier.
CoverCapy earns revenue through dentist memberships and referral relationships disclosed on our advertising disclosure page. Those relationships never change how we describe a carrier's coverage, waiting periods, annual maximums, or premiums.
How we research and source
Every coverage figure on CoverCapy traces back to a primary source. We work from the documents that actually govern a plan, not from secondhand summaries:
- Carrier benefit summaries, certificates of coverage, and Summary of Benefits documents for each plan we compare.
- The American Dental Association Health Policy Institute fee survey for treatment cost ranges.
- Standardized CDT procedure codes, so a cost estimate is comparable from one office to the next.
- Direct verification with carriers and dental offices when a benefit detail is unclear or recently changed.
Where a number is an estimate or a typical range rather than a fixed rule, we say so on the page, and we point readers to confirm the exact figure with the carrier before they enroll.
Expert review
Dental insurance sits at the intersection of health and money, so accuracy matters more than speed. Content that explains coverage, treatment cost, or billing is reviewed for clinical and billing accuracy by a licensed dental professional before publication, and again when a plan's benefits change.
The review checks three things: that the clinical description of a procedure is correct, that the way coverage and coinsurance are explained matches how claims are actually adjudicated, and that no figure overstates what a plan will pay.
Fact-checking and updates
Plan benefits change, premiums move, and waiting periods get revised. Each plan and treatment page carries a last-updated date, and we re-check carrier benefits on a recurring schedule and after any known plan change. When we learn a figure is out of date, we correct the page and update the date rather than leaving stale numbers in place.
Corrections
If you find something on CoverCapy that looks wrong, tell us and we will check it against the source and fix it. Accuracy on a Your-Money-or-Your-Life topic is more important to us than being right the first time. Corrections to a material figure are noted on the affected page.
Who we are
