What Invisalign
Costs in 2026
Clear aligners run a wide range, and the insurance question has a catch most pages bury: ortho is a separate benefit, and many plans exclude adults. Here is the honest price, what coverage really pays, and how to fund the rest. Get cover today, see a dentist tomorrow.
Costs below are national estimates, not quotes. Your price depends on case complexity and your provider.
Quick answer
Invisalign typically costs about $3,000 to $8,000 in 2026, with express and lite cases at the low end and full comprehensive treatment around $5,000 to $8,000. Some PPO plans cover orthodontics at about 25% to 50% up to a lifetime maximum, often $1,000 to $2,500, but most limit full benefits to dependents under 18, so adult coverage is less common.
Invisalign cost by package
Case complexity sets the package, and the package sets the price. These are 2026 US ranges without insurance.
| Package | Typical cost | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Invisalign Express | $1,800 to $4,000 | Minor correction, fewer aligners, shorter treatment. |
| Invisalign Lite | $3,000 to $4,500 | Mild to moderate cases that need more movement than Express. |
| Invisalign Comprehensive (Full) | $5,000 to $8,000 | Full bite and alignment correction; most adults average near $5,700. |
Ranges, not quotes. Complexity, provider experience, geography, and the number of aligner trays move the final number.
Invisalign vs braces
For mild to moderate cases the two often cost about the same. Complexity, not the method alone, drives the bill.
Traditional braces
$3,500 to $5,500Lower entry price and effective for complex movement, but more visible and harder to clean around.
Invisalign
$4,500 to $8,500Clear and removable, with the higher end reflecting complex full treatment. Mild cases land close to braces.
Does insurance cover Invisalign?
Sometimes. Orthodontics is a separate benefit with its own lifetime maximum, and the adult question is where plans differ most.
Separate lifetime maximum
Ortho usually has its own lifetime cap, often $1,000 to $2,500 (some premium plans to ~$3,500), separate from your annual maximum and not refreshed each year.
Often 25% to 50%
When a plan covers ortho, it typically pays about 25% to 50% of the cost, and Invisalign is usually covered on the same terms as metal braces.
Adults are often excluded
About 86% of plans limit full ortho benefits to patients under 18. Adult coverage is growing but still less common, so verify before you assume.
On the CoverCapy shelf, Delta Dental PPO Premium is unusual in covering adults and children at 50% after a 12-month wait, up to a $1,500 lifetime orthodontic maximum, and treats Invisalign the same as braces. Guardian Premier covers child orthodontics only, dependents under 19, up to a $1,500 lifetime maximum, and does not cover adult orthodontics. NCD Complete by MetLife does not cover orthodontics. Coverage varies by carrier, plan and state. Compare PPO plans for orthodontic coverage.
HSA, FSA and financing
Invisalign is eligible for an HSA, FSA, HRA or limited-purpose FSA. You can apply pre-tax dollars to copays, your deductible, or the balance above a plan's lifetime orthodontic maximum, which meaningfully lowers the real cost. If your benefit year is ending, spending the funds before they lapse can be worth timing your start around.
To spread what remains, most orthodontic offices offer in-house monthly plans with a down payment. CareCredit, accepted by many providers, offers deferred-interest promotions over 6 to 24 months or fixed-APR terms up to 60 months for larger cases. A PPO ortho benefit that pays a share lowers the amount you finance in the first place.
