What is the difference between Delta Dental Premium and Basic?
Both are individual PPO plans on the same network. Premium runs about $75 a month, carries a $2,000 calendar-year maximum, and adds major work, implants and adult or child orthodontics at 50 percent. Basic runs about $33 a month, caps at $1,000 a year, and covers preventive at 100 percent plus basic care at 50 percent only, with no major work, implants or orthodontics. Basic is the lowest monthly cost option and is structurally narrower, not just a cheaper Premium. Figures are illustrative and vary by state, so verify your certificate before enrolling.
Which Delta am I, and how do I check eligibility?
Delta Dental is a federation of 39 regional companies, so your plan is run by a member company tied to your state or your employer, for example Delta Dental of California or Delta Dental of Pennsylvania. Check the carrier name and member ID on your card, then sign in to that company's member portal or the national site to confirm your benefits, network tier and any waiting periods. Dentists verify eligibility through provider tools using the payer ID printed on the card. Portals and payer IDs change, so confirm against the current card.
Does Delta cover implants and adult braces?
On the individual Premium plan, yes, typically at 50 percent for both implants and adult or child orthodontics, with orthodontics subject to a $1,500 lifetime maximum and a $50 ortho deductible, after a waiting period of about 12 months. The Basic plan does not cover implants or orthodontics at all. Coverage varies by state, since some certificates exclude implants or whitening, so confirm your specific plan documents before assuming a benefit applies.
Is Delta Dental good insurance?
It depends on what you value. Delta is financially strong, with major member companies rated A Excellent by AM Best, and it has the widest dentist acceptance in the country. Does Medicare include Delta dental?
Original Medicare does not include routine dental.
